We are facing an ongoing election crisis. The midterms elections are already being interfered with and may well be cancelled.
We need to bring all the individual leaders, government agencies and activist groups together who are already working or will work to prevent this cancellation. We need to know each other, have our information in each others’ phones and have as much planning done as possible.
Jobs With Justice, Democracy Unites US and Tucson Shutdown and others are sponsoring a day-long conference to bring a movement together to face this crisis: Saturday, September 19, 8:30 a.m.--4:30 p.m. We’ll send the local location to people as they register. We will serve coffee, beverages and bagels at 8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served.
We have a grant to help support this conference from the national coalition: MayDayStrong.org. Over 600 labor and community groups have come together in this coalition to fight this cancellation.
The coalition has provided a handbook describing 15 different ways the election is being stolen already and probably will be in the future: https://freedomtrainers.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Election-Defense-Scenarios.pdf).
In the morning, we will pick the three scenarios most likely to occur here in Southern Arizona and break into working groups to begin to develop plans for dealing with them. In the afternoon, we will role-play these plans, including nonviolent direct action as needed. The relationships we build and the skills we develop will help us meet the other scenarios–and unexpected threats as well.
