Protect the Roadless Area Conservation Rule

[The Roadless Area Conservation Rule](https://www.fs.usda.gov/managing-land/planning/roadless) has protected nearly 59 million acres of national forest land from road construction and large-scale logging since 2001. In June of 2025, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced that the administration would be [rescinding the Roadless Area Conservation Rule](https://archive.is/vQC9R) to open up 59 million acres of national forestry to increased logging. This was in response to Trump’s [executive order](https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/immediate-expansion-of-american-timber-production/) that directed the Bureau of Land Management, the Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Forest Service to increase domestic timber production across [280 million acres of national forests and public lands](https://archive.is/jxnSW) under their collective management. The Forest Service has now [formally advanced Trump’s plan to repeal the Roadless Rule](https://archive.ph/pzy6b), opening 45 million acres of national forests—including iconic destinations like [California's Tahoe National Forest, Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, and the Appalachian Trail](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/aug/18/trump-administration-growth-forests)—to logging and road construction. The removal of these longstanding protections for development will [increase wildfire risk](https://www.sierraclub.org/angeles/blog/2026/05/roadless-rescission-wildfire-risks), [threaten wildlife habitats](https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/jun/05/trump-roadless-rule-national-forests-protection), and degrade watersheds that [provide clean drinking water](https://www.wilderness.org/articles/blog/45-million-acres-wild-roadless-forests-risk). America's public lands belong to everyone.
